It’s finally officially summer! If you’re on the road this season, please take care to be a responsible driver, don’t let your guard down now that the weather is nicer! If you’re going on a trip this summer, or heading to the cottage, here are a few tips to help you get there safely.
Tip #1: Ensure your vehicle is prepared
Ensure that your vehicle is road worthy by checking tire inflation on both your vehicle and trailers, secure loads, especially on roof racks, check all fluid levels, and fuel up before leaving to avoid being stranded on a busy roadway.
Tip #2: Plan Ahead
Plan your route and leave plenty of time to arrive at your destination. Anticipate heavy traffic and incorporate rest stops into your route to avoid fatigue and agitation. Slow traffic does not mean you should let your guard down, be alert!
Tip#3: Be cooperative
Control the space around your vehicle to avoid collisions and be a cooperative driver by allowing other motorists to merge on to the freeway.
Tip #4: Secure your furry companion
Pets belong in the backseat where they are secure and safe. Do not allow pets to sit on your lap while you drive, this can be distracting for the driver and ultimately dangerous for your passengers and your pet.
